A Lifelong Study of Healing: Deepening Expertise in Manual Lymph Drainage
Reflections on Manual Lymph Drainage, Lifelong Learning, and the Art of Healing
The Practice of Remaining a Student
One of the greatest gifts of working in the healing arts is realizing that there is always more to learn.
No matter how many years pass, how many clients are cared for, or how much experience is gained, the body continues to reveal new lessons. Science evolves, research deepens, ancient wisdom finds new relevance, and healing remains both an art and a lifelong study.
For me, continued learning has always been an essential part of the journey.
In 2026, I expanded my studies in Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) through advanced training with Southern California's beloved "Miss Lymph" while now reinforcing my clinical foundations through the Manual Lymph Drainage International Institute. These experiences allowed me to revisit a modality that has been part of my wellness practice for decades while deepening my understanding of its role in supporting overall well-being.
In many ways, it felt like coming full circle.
Back in the 1980s, I had the privilege of studying Manual Lymph Drainage with the Vodders as they were introducing this remarkable modality to the United States. Their pioneering work helped establish the foundation for modern lymphatic care, and their teachings continue to influence practitioners around the world today.
Returning to these studies decades later reminded me of something I have always believed: healing is not a destination, but a practice.

Understanding the River Within
At the center of Manual Lymph Drainage is one of the body's most fascinating and often overlooked systems: the lymphatic system.
I often think of it as a river flowing through the body.
This vast network supports fluid balance, immune function, and the body's natural cleansing processes. Unlike the circulatory system, which has the heart to keep blood moving, the lymphatic system relies on movement, breath, muscle contraction, and gentle stimulation to support healthy flow.
When we move, stretch, walk, breathe deeply, and care for our bodies, we help support this natural rhythm.
Manual Lymph Drainage is a gentle, specialized technique designed to encourage the movement of lymph throughout the body. The touch is remarkably light, often surprising those who experience it for the first time. Yet many people find the experience deeply calming and restorative, creating an opportunity to slow down, reconnect, and support the body's natural processes.
Why Lymphatic Health Matters
Throughout much of Europe, Manual Lymph Drainage has long been embraced as a standard component of wellness and supportive care. As awareness of lymphatic health continues to grow, more people are discovering the important role this system plays in overall well-being.
What I appreciate most about MLD is that it aligns with a philosophy that has guided my work for many years: the body is always working toward balance.
Our role is not to force healing. It is to create the conditions that allow the body to function as it was designed to.
Whether that support comes through movement, breathwork, restorative bodywork, herbal traditions, mindful self-care practices, or Manual Lymph Drainage, the intention remains the same: to work with the body rather than against it.

Bringing MLD Into Practice
My approach to Manual Lymph Drainage combines gentle lymphatic sequencing, supportive touch, nervous system regulation, and education.
Each session is designed not only as an experience of care but as an opportunity to better understand your own body.
One of my favorite aspects of this work is helping clients develop simple practices they can continue at home. During sessions, we often discuss the body's "Big 6" lymphatic regions and explore ways to support healthy lymphatic flow through movement, breath, hydration, and daily self-care.
My hope is that clients leave not only feeling cared for in the moment but also feeling empowered with knowledge they can carry into everyday life.
Healing Is a Lifelong Journey
For me, the most meaningful part of continuing my education is so much bigger than collecting certifications or credentials. It’s about the curiosity and ongoing growth that comes with remaining an eternal student.
The healing arts have taught me that curiosity is one of our greatest teachers. Every course, every mentor, every client, and every year of experience offers an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the body and its remarkable capacity for healing.
More than four decades after first studying Manual Lymph Drainage, I remain grateful for the teachers who continue to inspire me, the evolving understanding of lymphatic health, and the privilege of sharing these practices with others.
Because healing may be something we receive, but it is also something we continue to study, practice, and cultivate throughout our lives.
