Honoring the Practice of JAMU

The word JAMU comes from Bahasa Indonesia and translates to herbal remedies used internally and externally for health and beauty. But JAMU has always meant more than a definition. It is a living tradition; an intuitive approach to caring for the body, the skin, and the spirit through plants, preparation, and intention.

From Bali to Montana

JAMU creates tropical body care rooted in ritual, history, and Balinese wisdom. Our formulas blend organic, exotic botanicals with time-honored healing traditions, designed to support both body and spirit.

Through herbal wellness products, immersive spa rituals, and Balinese Massage education, JAMU invites a cross-cultural approach to care — one that honors intention, preparation, and the art of touch. Founded in Bali, Indonesia in 1993 and crafted in Montana since 2000, JAMU bridges ancestral knowledge with modern spa practice.

Meet the Founder

Kim Collier: Founder of JAMU, International Spa Educator, Practitioner & Experience Planner

Kim's path into wellness began not quietly, but memorably. Early in her career, she offered massage and private yoga sessions to artists including Sting, John Denver, INXS, and Peter Frampton. This immersion into the intersection of music, movement, and restoration would shape her life’s work.

That early spark never faded. It evolved through decades of practice, travel, teaching, and building. It continues to guide her forward with curiosity, confidence, and care.

A Life Devoted to Wellness

Since 1987, Kim and her husband, Cary Collier, have worked side by side in the wellness space, building what has become a deeply respected, globally minded practice. Together, they are the founders of both JAMU and CollierConcepts, blending spa development, education, and experiential design.

Kim’s work spans business development, hands on therapeutic practice, wellness education, and plant medicine advocacy. She is as comfortable teaching in treatment rooms as she is shaping long term spa visions, always guided by integrity, intuition, and experience.

JAMU was founded in Bali, Indonesia in 1993, born from Kim’s profound connection to Indonesian healing traditions and her years spent living and traveling throughout Southeast Asia. She traces her love of jamu, Indonesia’s centuries old system of herbal and body based therapies, to this formative period, including time living in Hong Kong, where she married Cary in 1990.

The couple affectionately refers to their eight years in Southeast Asia as their adventurous working honeymoon, a chapter defined by exploration, learning, and cultural immersion that continues to inform JAMU’s philosophy today.

In 2000, they relocated to Whitefish, Montana, where JAMU is now crafted. Bali remains the spiritual heart of the brand. Montana is its grounding force.

A Practice Recognized Worldwide

Since its founding, JAMU’s products, rituals, and educational offerings have received national recognition from Vogue, Forbes, Organic Spa Magazine, and O, The Oprah Magazine, among others.

Accolades have never been the goal. Kim’s focus has always remained on cultivating meaningful spa experiences. These experiences honor tradition, elevate touch, and restore the nervous system through thoughtful design and ritual.

Looking Ahead

As the wellness industry continues to evolve, so does Kim’s vision. Music, meditation, vibrational healing, herbal remedies, and Balinese massage remain central to the spa and wellness experiences she is designing.

These experiences are intended for day spas, resort spas, destination properties, and ultimately, individuals seeking deeper connection and care.

The next decade holds promise, possibility, and continued creation. Should Sting ever return for a repeat session, he would be welcomed with open arms.

Always, a grateful heart.
